THE VISION OF DANIEL BEING
FULFILLED
In Daniel 12:14, the prophet wrote about seeing the last days,
when people would be traveling back and forth throughout the whole
earth. I don’t think God gave him a vision of tourism, or the invention
the air-line industry. I believe Daniel was seeing great movement in the
Kingdom of God. He also said that knowledge would increase. I do not
think this is just knowledge in general because you do not need a
prophecy to realize that knowledge always increases over time. What I believe Daniel saw was a significant spike
of the knowledge of God, or “knowing Him by experience”.
The
last days began two thousand years ago, when the first real Christian
migration took place. Since then there has been always been movement in the Body
of Christ, especially in the past two hundred years, but accelerating
all over time. Nothing
compares to what has happened in the past twenty-five years. Multitudes from
every part of the world have been traveling to other countries, sharing what
the Lord is saying and doing. In fact, I don’t know of a church that is
not taking teams some place overseas. There has never been anything like
this before, certainly not this scale.
I believe that the purpose of all this has been to create a great exchange of grace, which happens whenever one part of the Body provides what the other lacks. When one part of the Body goes to comfort, encourage, or strengthen another part of the Body, it is edifying itself by love. This causes both the givers and the receivers to grow in the process, especially in our knowing and experiencing God. I know Him better for having gone, which is perhaps the greatest benefit from doing of short-term missions.
Word of Grace Outreach is only one of many church-founded mission organizations that seized the initiative by beginning to go overseas ourselves, rather than leaving the job to the large mission organizations who have done it in the past. Most of our church members have gone overseas, some several times. This has not only had an impact on our church, but also on those who have received us as ambassadors for Christ. When they saw us doing this, even though we are ordinary people like them, it released a greater vision for them to become missionaries themselves. This has caused the circle of knowing God by experience to spread, just as Daniel foresaw.
